The “Traditional Tet Market” aims to broadly promote cultural heritage among citizens, especially officials, members, students, and youth, highlighting the values of national traditions. It emphasizes the preservation and celebration of Southern Vietnam’s Don Ca Tai Tu music, recreating a Tet holiday cultural market setting. The festival also provides meaningful activities for city residents as part of the 2020 Canh Ty Lunar New Year celebration in Bac Lieu Province and Bac Lieu City.
The event lasts four days, from January 19, 2020, to January 22, 2020 (lunar calendar dates: December 25-28). Located along the 30/4 Street, Ward 3, Bac Lieu City, the festival features 35 booths from various provincial departments, city sectors, wards, companies, businesses, and schools. Key activities include traditional Tet market stall decoration, traditional cake and candy making competitions, five-fruit platter decoration contests, expanded chess competitions, folk games, dragon and lion dances, Don Ca Tai Tu music performances, calligraphy, and street music performances.
The beautiful images and cultural values showcased by the booths will contribute to preserving the nation’s traditions during Tet.
A special Don Ca Tai Tu music space will be available every evening for guests to listen, interact, and even learn to sing, promoting the value of this Southern Vietnamese art form, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014.
